2008 Production Workshop

The students at the 2008 High School Production Workshop recreated this climatic scene from the movie Pleasantville! First, the students auditioned their counselors and cast the roles as they saw fit. Next, they spent a whole day adapting a boardroom into a courthouse. Students learned how important production design was and many of them made props and set dressings at home. On production day, the students created all the shots and filmed every scene. They directed the counselors on how to act each part until shooting was complete. For postproduction, the students broke up with 3 teams. Two teams were each editing their version of the scene using Apple's Final Cut Editing Software with the counselors there to teach and guide. The third team did all of the color work in Adobe After Effects, carefully rotoscoping each frame to make the cutouts of the characters look realistic. On the final day of the workship, the students produced two studio tv productions. The first group put together a VJ show and the second group worked as their crew. The second group then produced an episode of TSTV's Videogame Hour Live.

2008 Journalism Workshop

The campers at the 2008 High School Journalism Workshop were taught all the essentials becoming a broadcast journalist. Students learned both how to cover stories fairly and accurately as well as how to get the footage that they needed to make their packages compelling. First the students learned about different types of shots and how to construct sequences. After a couple of practice sessions with the cameras and many news writing exercises, they then had to pitch stories to their counselors just like in an actual newsroom. As soon as everyone had a story to work on, they went out and shot them. Not only did the students film and report, they learned how to edit their news packages as well. And once everyone was done in the editing room, they spent a full day in the studio, recording a news broadcast!!

2008 Production Kids Camp

photo of strawberry shortcake The campers at the 2008 Junior High Production camp created their very own variety show! Campers were given a lesson in camera work and sent out with their counselors over campus to film whatever kind of segments they created. They ended up with everything from fake movie trailers to fake sportscasts. The campers were taught how to use Apple's Final Cut Pro and with the help of their counselors, edited together packages to use for their live show! On the last day of camp, the campers took those packages and wove them into a studio show recording to create, "Kid's Tube."
